Test Scores Show More Work Is Needed In Math

The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board is taking a close look at the most recent standardized test scores.

The Board saw big gains in Grade 3 Reading and Writing.

Director of Education Sean Monteith says a new strategy introduced last year is already paying off.

Monteith says they saw improvements in schools that they haven’t seen before.

However, he notes there’s still plenty of work to do surrounding math results, stating it’s a concern across the province.

Monteith says the board will look at strategies to turn around those results.

He says perceptions surrounding math can cause students to go into a classroom or test with a negative attitude.

Monteith says making sure teachers are always properly supported and students are effectively listened to will help turn around any low scores.
