April 9th, 2017 may seem far away but it’s not for members of the Dryden Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corp (core).
Officer Cadet Lori Fisher says they will soon be launching a major fundraising drive for a trip of a lifetime.
They’re hoping to travel to Vimmy Ridge and attend the 100th anniversary ceremonies.
The trip will include stops in Berlin, Amsterdam, the Canadian War Cemetery, Normandy and Paris.
It’s a roughly $150,000 fundraising campaign as it costs $5,000 for each cadet to make the trip.
Organizers are targeting 30 attendees between Dryden and Kenora.
Fisher says since we have so few veterans left, it’s important to make sure the young people learn about the sacrifices that were made.
