Throne Speech Highlights

The Speech from the Throne has kicked off a new session of Parliament.
Governor General David Johnston read the speech Wednesday afternoon and stated the Feds will continue to reduce the size and cost of the government.
Johnston says the government will review federal assets and public service pay and benefits levels will be reasonable and in the publics interest.
The Federal government is promising to work with provinces and territories to allow for the free movement of skilled workers.
Johnston says they will also promote the skilled trades industry and assist apprentices with the cost of their training.
The Harper government is also promising to help reduce cell phone roaming costs and make cable providers offer pick and pay tv services.
Wednesday’s budget-focused throne speech also promised to “end geographic price discrimination against Canadians;” a sign the government is making a move to close the gap between prices for goods purchased in Canada compared to the United States.
