Thunder Bay Fighting Tax Appeal

Another northwestern Ontario municipality is facing a property assessment battle.
Resolute Forest Products is appealing its Thunder Bay property assessment and wants a reduction of 60%.
Mayor Keith Hobbs says the city has already contacted a lawyer with the aim of taking the company on.
Hobbs says they have to protect every tax dollar they have and suggests big business must pay their fair share.
If successful, the amount of taxes Resolute pays to the city would drop by $1.8-million a year.
City Manager Tim Commisso says to top it off, the company is asking for the reduction to be retroactive by four years.
The company’s appeal is expected to go before a government review board in June.
