Efforts will be make to try to keep the Thunder Bay Generating Station open following an announcement it will be closing.
Mayor Keith Hobbs insists the facility can play a vital role with mineral exploration efforts in the northwest.
Hobbs says there are a lot of mines that need the power and that doesn’t include the Ring of Fire.
He says the power is also important for expansion in the forestry sector.
Hobbs stresses the generating station is still a viable option and full of potential.
He says he plans on lobbying Energy Minister and Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford this month on the matter.
Hobbs notes local officials were successful several years ago in keeping the facility open and they hope to do it again.
