A few more details are now known about Paul Panacheese of New Osnaburgh First Nation and his health issues.
His death in 2006 and the deaths of six other native students in Thunder Bay are being examined during an inquest.
Panacheese’s cousin Victor Skunk says he knew Paul had a family history of heart problems, and it didn’t end there
He says he complained of chest pains but nothing was done.
Earlier testimony at the inquest indicated while Panacheese had alcohol in his system, it was not considered a contributing factor to his death.
Skunk also testified he believed it would help to have students meet with their host family before they move in.
Shawn Wavy was a friend of Panacheese and he also took the stand Tuesday.
He talked of the racism Panacheese and him faced while attending school in the city.
Wavy says he didn’t notice anything unusual about Panacheese in the hours before his death.
