Thunder Bay Woman Found Dead in Philippines

The family of a 25-year-old Canadian woman found dead in the Philippines is expressing doubt about police reports she hanged herself.
The body of Elisa Loyo Gutierrez, from Thunder Bay, was found Friday in the chef’s office at the Fontana
Leisure Park, where she had worked since September.
Her stepfather, Dan Somerfield, says she was having problems at work, and had received death threats in October after she’d exposed several employees who were stealing meat from the kitchen and were subsequently fired.
The family last spoke with her during a phone call on December 19th in which she said she would be home in early January or May at the latest.
Somerfield says she sounded sad, but she wouldn’t have committed suicide.
Police say Gutierrez’s body had cuts on both wrists and two stab wounds on her neck, and appeared to have died several days before she was found.
Somerfield spoke with Canadian officials in Ottawa, who told him Canada’s ambassador to the Philippines has pressed for a full autopsy to be conducted in Manila and for a thorough investigation.
