Thursday Is Budget Day In Ontario

For the first time in a decade, we are expected to see a balanced provincial budget.

Finance Minister Charles Sousa unveils his financial plan Thursday afternoon and he is promising an increase in spending.

Sousa says economic growth in the province and higher than expected revenue for the government has helped in balancing the books.

He notes the government has been very disciplined in its approach over the past few years.

Sousa says they will continue to have substantial investments moving forward, while remaining financially prudent.

The budget is expected to include additional spending for infrastructure and health care.

Meantime, the President of the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions is anxious to see additional funding for health care in today’s fiscal document.

Michael Hurley is calling for a hike of at least 5%.

Hurley says there is a push right now to convince all three political parties to invest more in health care.
