Tips For Bear Encounters

This is bear season and local residents and visitors are being urged to be aware of their surroundings.

Rick Hagdu is a Regional Outreach Specialist with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry and he offers some tips to avoid bear encounters.

He says when out in the bush you should carry a whistle or an air horn as well as bear pepper spray.

Hagdu says you should also consider carrying a long-handled axe when deep in the forest and to slowly back away if you notice a bear.
