An international flavour has been added to the Nuclear Waste Management Organization and its search for a host site to house used nuclear fuel.
The organization has inked a co-operation agreement with counterparts the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Sweden, France and Belgium.
President and CEO Laurie Swami says the deal ensures they are applying the best international practices to their plan for the safe, long-term management of nuclear fuel.
Swami say it will also allow the organization to share their experiences, research, innovation and knowledge with their global counterparts.
The final selection of a community to host the used nuclear fuel won’t be made until 2023, with actual operation of the underground facility to begin around 2045.
Ignace is still in the running.
