As more than 600-thousand university and college students across Ontario go back to school the province wants to remind them of their rights as renters of off campus housing.
Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Ted McMeekin says if students know their rights and responsibilities as a tenant it can help them avoid problems and protect themselves.
McMeekin suggests students read up on the residential tenancies act that includes information on how to terminate a lease, when rent can be increased, and rules about subletting, having pets and changing locks.
