Even though it is warming up, the Duke Street area still remains under a boil water advisory.
The cold temperatures has caused so many water main break and freezing lines, but hopes are that the mild temperature will change this.
Public Health Inspector from the Northwestern Health Unit, Brian Norris tells CKDR some advice for those who aren’t under the advisory anymore.
“Now would be a good idea to remind people that they should keep a 72 hour supply on hand in case people do lose water.”
If you are still under a boil water advisory here are some tips on how to safely use water:
-You can still continue to do laundry the way you usually do.
-If you are washing dishes by hand, you can boil the water beforehand, or use 5% bleach mixed with hot water and let dishes air dry.
If you are unsure of what to do after the ban has been lifted, there are some tips below:
-Run cold water faucets for 1 minute before using the water.
-Flush all garden hoses by running cold water through them for 1 minute.
-Run water softeners through a regeneration cycle.
-Drain and refill hot water heaters set below 45 degrees Celsius.
