A large percentage of Canadians aren’t sending letter mail anymore.
A new report by the Conference Board of Canada suggests that if changes aren’t made to the way the postal service operates, they will lose one-billion-dollars per year by 2020.
Canada Post Spokesperson John Hamilton says right now 2/3 of Canadians receive their mail through P.O. boxes or apartment boxes.
He adds that the Board is making some recommendations, such as moving the remainder 1/3 who receive door-to-door mail to community mail boxes.
Hamilton stresses that many people, especially in Northern and rural communities, rely heavily on Canada Post for sending and receiving goods.
While discussions are still in the early stages, Hamilton says they will be asking for public feedback through their website.
Canada Post commissioned the Conference Board of Canada to conduct the report.
