Some cutbacks for the Treaty Three Police Service.
In a letter to a number of officers, the Police Services Board states that they would be changing their conditions of employment, which includes reducing the salaries of those with eight years or more of service.
Judith Monteith-Farrell is the regional rep for the Public Service Alliance of Canada, which represents the officers, and says the cuts range in the thousands.
For those who have been with the service for 8-16 years, the cut will be $2,505 per year, those 16-23 years will lose $5,009 and those who have been employed for over 23 years will lose $7,514.
In addition, the T3PS board has also laid off eight officers due to the lack of funding from the government.
Monteith-Farrell says this will result in a lack of resources for police, leaving them understaffed.
She adds the officers shouldn’t have to pay the price for the inability to get proper funding.
The cuts leave the service with about 72 officers to cover a large geographic area.
