Tourism down this summer

Its been a disappointing tourism season for most resorts in northwestern Ontario this summer.

Number released by Canada Customs show that cross-border
traffic was down about 11 percent in July compared to last year.

Gerry Cariou is the executive director of the Ontario Sunset Country Travel Association and says visitor numbers from the Fort Frances and Rainy River border crossings were down.

Cariou says they won’t get their August cross-border numbers for a couple of more weeks, but the general trend this summer has been towards fewer visits from americans.
