Provincial Energy Minister Brad Duguid says the Government is moving ahead with the new power transmission line from Dryden to Pickle Lake, which will allow for the provision of power to more remote communities.
However, speaking in Thunder Bay Wednesday, Duguid cautioned that further expansion of the grid will require Federal participation, as Ottawa is responsible for supplying power to remote First Nations.
Duguid also stated that wind or solar energy sources might be good fits for off-the-grid Northern communities.
Duguid says the province is looking at the possibility of offering incentives to communities that want to get on-board with such energy projects.
