Travel And Closure Update From OPP

Winter has hit in a big way. Highway 17 between the Ontario/Manitoba boundary and Shabaqua as well as Highway 71 from Kenora to Fort Frances remain closed.

There is no word on when they will re-open.

Provincial Police have responded to a number of collisions, however no major injuries have been reported.

Constable Ronni Grosenick reminds the public that if you are travelling on other secondary roads to drive with extra care and caution.

Grosenick adds motorists should monitor the road conditions before they travel, but are strongly recommending to stay at home.

Highway 502 is currently closed due to a collision near the Dryden Landfill.

Highway’s 72 and 105 are open and police say they will be allowing drivers to complete their trip to Dryden.

Grosenick strongly urges the public to not call Police for road conditions and closures but instead call 5-1-1 or check the MTO website.
