Treaty #3 Chief Hoping To Sit Down With Premier Ford To Address Concerns

The Grand Chief of Treaty #3 has some early concerns with the new PC government.

Francis Kavanaugh is upset with a decision to merge Indigenous Affairs into Energy and Northern Development.

Kavanaugh calls the new Ministry “watered down”.

He’s also upset with a decision to cancel Residential School instruction in Ontario schools.

Kavanaugh says the former Liberal government moved the yardsticks on reconciliation in so many ways.

He believes the new government isn’t taking reconciliation serious enough.

Kavanaugh says he wants to establish a relationship with the provincial government on his terms.

He adds he won’t go on a soapbox and talk down to those in power, stressing he will talk to them face-to-face across the table.
