Treaty 3 Police Holding Amnesty Program

An amnesty program for First Nations communities is being offered next month.
The Treaty 3 Police Service is asking residents with illegal firearms to hand them over without penalty.
Detective Constable Aaron Genaille says firearm owners must have a valid licence and the penalty for not doing so could be up to 5-years in prison.
He says the police service has been placing flyers throughout its communities regarding when and where the program is taking place.
Genaille notes this is the first year they have run the program and that any gun taken off the street means it’s a success.
