Treaty #3 Pulls Out Mining Act Session

Grand Council Treaty 3 isn’t happy with the new legislation planned for the mining act.
Grand Chief Diane Kelly walked out of a mining act information session Thursday, stating the act dis empowers the first nation in regards to harvesting natural resources.
Kelly says the meeting was not a consultation since it was inadequately resourced, noting it lacked sufficient time frames to acquire meaningful input.
Grand Council Treaty Three feels the legislation allows activities such as claim staking, exploration, and permits; without any safeguards for First Nations.
