Treaty Three rejects Common Voice

Grand Council Treaty Three is rejecting the region’s economic development initiative “Common Voice”.

The plan was launched by the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association.

Treaty Three representatives attended the N.O.M.A. conference in Thunder Bay last week, but refused to endorse the concept.

Fred Greene is the political advisor for Treaty Three and says they already have their own processes which have been successful in developing positive relationships with mining and forestry companies in the area.

Green says the Common Voice initiative doesn’t recognize
treaty rights, and until it does, they have no intention of being involved in that process.
