Treaty#3 Attends Emergency Meeting On Aboriginal Child Care

Grand Council Treaty #3 says it’s guardedly optimistic that the federal government will commit to more funding for the aboriginal child welfare system.

Grand Chief Frances Kavanaugh attended an emergency meeting last week in Ottawa with Indigenous Services Minister Jane Philpott.

He says the government’s intent to implement the orders from the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal is a step in the right direction.

Kavanaugh says he’s now waiting to hear an official response from the province to the six point plan released by the federal government to address the indigenous child welfare crisis.
