Trucking Association Estimates Losses From Nipigon River Bridge Problems

The Trucking Association of Ontario says about 100 million dollars worth of business will be lost every day the Nipigon River Bridge is closed. A single lane of traffic has reopened, however, it’s still not known when the damaged bridge on the Trans-Canada Highway can be used by some big rigs. Currently, tranports with ‘heavy loads are not being allowed to cross. President and CEO David Bradley says on a normal day, 13 hundred trucks use that bridge and together they haul mostly food. He notes there’s no need for panic at this point, but says more than anything, it will have a grave impact on the economy.
