There’s nothing surprising in the Trudeau government’s Speech from the Throne.
It was read by Governor General David Johnston and outlined a number of priorities for this session of Parliament, priorities which were promised during the election campaign.
This includes providing greater support for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault as well as legislation to get handguns and other weapons out of the streets.
The speech also promised a middle class tax cut, an inquiry into missing and murdered aboriginal women and legalizing marijuana.
