Trudeau Nominates Sheilah Martin to Supreme Court of Canada Vacancy

Prime minister Justin Trudeau has announced his nomination of Sheilah Martin to the Supreme Court of Canada to fill the vacancy that Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin will leave with her coming retirement in December.

Justice Martin most recently served as a judge for the Courts of Appeal of Alberta, the Northwest Terroritories and Nunavut and was appointed in 2015. She also served as a deputy judge for the Supreme Court of Yukon since 2009.

This is the second nomination under the federal government’s new selection process for the Supreme Court.
