Truth And Reconciliation Commission Set To Release Final Report

After more than six years and interviews with over 7,000 people, the much anticipated Truth and Reconciliation Commission will be releasing its final report Tuesday.

Commission Chair Justice Murray Sinclair says it doesn’t make for pleasant reading and notes at least 6,000 aboriginal children died while attending residential schools.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin is blunt when she says the Canadian government at the time attempted to commit “cultural genocide” against aboriginals.

She calls it the worst stain on Canada’s human-rights record.

Sinclair says if that was perpetrated today, those responsible would likely be brought before the World Court in the Hague on charges of genocide.
