TSB Investigating Fatal Ornge Crash

The Transportation Safety Board says 4-investigators should be in the Moosonee area sometime tonight or early tomorrow morning to begin their probe into a fatal air ambulance crash.
An Ornge air ambulance crashed outside Moosonee just after midnight, killing four Ornge staff.
TSB Spokesperson John Cottreau says they must wait for investigators to arrive before determining their next move.
Cottreau says the TSB is already engaged in gathering information on the crew, the aircraft, its maintenance history and certification.
Ornge says two pilots and two paramedics were on board the aircraft, but no patients.
The victims have been identified by Ornge as Capt. Don Filliter of Skead, Ontario, First Officer Jacques
Dupuy, of Otterburn-Park, Quebec, paramedic Dustin Dagenais, of Moose Factory, Ontario, and paramedic Chris Snowball, of Burlington, Ontario.
Meantime, Ornge Chief Operating Officer Rob Giguere says he doesn’t know what caused the crash.
Giguere says the helicopter left its base in Moosonee en route to Attawapiskat to pick up a patient when contact was lost around midnight, shortly after takeoff.
Giguere says the chopper crashed on a relatively flat terrain and visibility was good at the time of the crash.
He says Ornge has six S76 helicopters in its fleet and has pulled out of service two aircraft that would have been in operation today “out of an abundance of caution.”
Giguere says every member of the Ornge team is “deeply saddened by this tragic incident” and their hearts go out to the friends and families of those who lost their lives.
Premier Kathleen Wynne says she was devastated to learn of the deaths of two pilots and two paramedics in the northern Ontario air ambulance crash.
Wynne has offered her condolences to the families of those who were killed.
Wynne says the four first responders lost their lives ensuring the people of Ontario receive the help they need, adding “their service and sacrifice will be honoured and remembered.”
