Twinning Highway 11/17

Ontario is moving ahead with twinning Highway 11/17 between Thunder Bay and Nipigon.

Teranorth Construction and Engineering has been awarded the contract and work is expected to begin this fall and be completed by 2026.

The contract, valued at $107 million, includes $77 million from the province and $30 million in federal funding.

The project is expected to create some 750 direct and indirect jobs.

Once complete, 72 kilometres out of a total 106 kilometres of the highway between the two communities will be a four-lane highway.

The project will also include building two new bridges over Pearl River.
