Provincial Police in Red Lake are confirming two fatalities in the collision that closed Highway 105 yesterday.
Police say yesterday at around 11:15am a truck was travelling northbound on Highway 105 when it left the road and collided with two boulders and a tree.
Police then say the truck’s fuel tank ruptured and caught fire.
OPP say a civilian witness saw the two people in the truck, but was unable to get them out due to the damage to the vehicle and called 911.
Provincial Police officers in the area saw a large plume of smoke and attended the scene as well.
Police say they were successful in removing the passenger from the vehicle with help from the Red Lake Fire Department, Kenora District Services Board Emergency Medical Services and the civilian that was on the scene.
OPP say the passenger was sent to the Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital, but was pronounced dead a while later.
Both the driver and the passenger died and their identities will be released once next of kin has been notified.
