Two Leaders Debate the Issues in Thunder Bay

Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak
wasted no time in criticizing Premier Dalton McGuinty’s decision to
skip today’s (Friday) leaders’ debate in Thunder Bay.
Hudak used his opening statement in the debate on northern issues
to say it was typical of McGuinty to be missing from the debate
because he’s been AWOL from northern Ontario for years.
One man from Kaministiqua showed up outside the hotel where the debate is being
held with a chicken that he said represented the Liberal leader.
In her opening statement, NDP Leader Andrea Horwath talked about
how her party would show respect for northern issues, their resource
wealth and for decision making powers.
Other issues discussed were the Ring of Fire, the Far North Act and crumbling infrastructure.
Expanding the Provincial gas tax program was one of the promises made by the two Leaders at the debate.
PC Leader Tim Hudak says they will let local city councils decide how to use money generated through the gas tax.
NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says she understands what it’s like sitting around the Municipal council table.
The Liberals maintain they could not work today’s debate
organized by the Northern Ontario Municipalities Association into
McGuinty’s campaign schedule.
