A local coalition formed to fight the high cost of policing in the province has caught the attention of two political leaders.
Andrea Horwath of the NDP and Steven Del Duca of the Liberals have sent a letter of support to the Mayor’s of Sioux Lookout, Pickle Lake and Kenora.
Both commit to bring costs in line with other municipalities in Ontario if elected.
The two vow to review the policing model with consultations from local municipalities.
One report indicates the three communities paid 30 million dollars more for policing over the last eight years as compared to the average cost paid in other communities.
Horwath and Del Duca stress this is money that could be better spent on fixing crumbling infrastructure.
