The 2020/2021 ‘AAA’ U-18 Kenora Thistles season is still up in the air.
Hockey Northwestern Ontario has said that they’re fine with the Thistles playing their Manitoba ‘AAA’ U-18 campaign if the Northwestern Health Unit lifts their recommendation against non-essential travel, which is something Doctor Kit Young Hoon says they’re not going to do.
“We’ve provided a recommendation to avoid non-essential travel,” says Doctor Young Hoon, “I think it’s important for people to know that the risk in Manitoba is increasing.”
She adds that the situation in Winnipeg, where the Thistles would be playing most of their games, is especially bad.
“The Manitoba numbers are increasing over time, especially in Winnipeg. Their numbers are very high compared to where they have been, and they seem to be increasing.”
The Manitoba ‘AAA’ U-18 season is scheduled to get underway Friday night.
