Unifor Accuses U.S. Of Bullying With Unfair Tariffs

Unifor is supporting Canada’s new complaint to the World Trade Organization over the United States’ unfair trade tariffs on the forestry sector. Union President Jerry Dias says the U.S. is trying to bully us, and we’re not going to stand for it. Dias is taking aim at President Donald Trump. He says to say that President Trump is difficult is an understatement, stressing they are dealing with an American Administration that really doesn’t respect other nations. Dias points to recent comments made about Africa and Haiti. He says Canada isn’t dealing with a logical person in the United States, so any attempts at resolving this diplomatically, you just have to throw that out the window. Dias says Canada’s forestry industry is following the rules and they are confident that they will prevail, again, in international tribunals. He is urging the Trudeau government to not let up on its attack on this portfolio. Dias says these type of trade disputes with the U.S. aren’t going away, so they have to immediately fight “fire-with-fire”.
