Unifor has released a new report alerting the province of serious problems with how school bus contracts are awarded.
Union President Jerry Dias says the current Request for Proposal process for handing out school bus contracts undermines local democracy and could put children at risk.
Dias says school boards have been left to scramble to cover abandoned routes, while declining working conditions has led to higher employee turnover.
He has written a letter to the Premier and the Minister of Education calling for changes.
Unifor is calling on the Ontario government to make good on a promise to conduct a thorough review of the RFP process.
The union is also demanding greater transparency among school transportation consortiums.
