Union President Reacts To Conference Board Report

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers is reacting to a report from the Conference Board of Canada that Canada Post will lose $1-billion a year by 2020.
Union President Denis Lemelin says that’s not based on reality, but more based on the projected $250-million loss in 2012.
Lemelin says Canada Post made a profit in 2012, but the Conference Board figured it would have been a loss of $54-million if not for the new collective agreement with the CUPW.
Lemelin says his concern is that if the Conference Board can’t predict the financial results for 2012, can anyone rely on their predictions for 2020.
He believes that the only thing the Board is doing is looking at where cuts can be made, such as door to door delivery and services to the public.
