The United States has imposed new duties totalling 29 percent on Canadian softwood lumber.
Ontario Natural Resources Minister John Snobelen says it is too early to say how the duties will impact the forest industry in the province, in terms of layoffs.
However, Snobelen says producers are not about to give up without a fight.
He adds the Americans are the real losers since it will cost U-S consumers more to build homes.
The next step for the province will be to go to the World Trade Organization for a ruling on the duties.
