A CN train derailment near Fort Frances isn’t expected to threaten surface waters, like the Rainy River.
Ontario’s Ministry of Environment says up to 12,000 gallons of petroleum distillates was spilled near Barwick, Friday afternoon, causing the evacuation of about 60 homes.
Officials say a vacuum truck is on site to capture the liquid.
The Ministry adds it’s been calling on the feds to do more to improve rail safety and regulations, as the transportation of dangerous goods doesn’t fall under its jurisdiction.
