The victim of a plane crash at the Thunder Bay International Airport Monday night has been identified as a long-term contract pilot with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.
Tributes are being shared on Twitter by provincial officials including Minister in charge Greg Rickford.
The Kenora-Rainy River MPP says our condolences to his family and our firefighting community, adding we recognize the dangers all our firefighters face everyday and we thank them for their service.
Transportation Safety Board investigators continue to investigate.
MAG Aerospace Canada has confirmed the Commander 690 aircraft was departing for the Dryden Regional Airport shortly after 9 o’clock.
The TSB, in an email to Acadia News, indicated that the pilot did not request a return to the airport as previously indicated.
The aircraft lost control while returning to land and struck the runway surface.
The identity of the victim is being withheld to respect the next of kin notification process.
