Various Scams Back In Dryden

This is the time we get in the spirit of giving, which means some folks will try to take advantage of the situation.

Dryden Police are warning local residents to never give out personal information and to be on alert of scam artists.

Police have received several reports of attempts of fraud through mail, fax or e-mail.

Some come from lawyers offering to turn over estate money belonging to someone with the same last name, while others are in the form of winnings from a lottery that a person didn’t enter.

Police are also warning folks about requests for payments of outstanding utility bills through Western Union with threats of cutting off service.

The Grandparent Scam is also rearing its ugly head once again.

Calls are made from someone claiming to be a close relative, saying they are in trouble with the law.

They ask for a large amount of money to get out of jail.

Police say people shouldn’t respond and should just hang up the phone.
