The prime minister is defending his vetting process in selecting a new governor general.
It comes as reports have surfaced that Julie Payette faced an assault charge that doesn’t exist anymore, and was involved in a collision in which a pedestrian died.
Justin Trudeau says there are no issues that arose in the background checks that will prevent Payette from becoming in his words, an extraordinary governor general.
Trudeau calls the vetting process thorough and in-depth.
Meantime, Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer says the prime minister doesn’t run the vetting process by him, but thinks it’s important Trudeau is open and transparent about how it operates. (Screenshot: CPAC)
