The popular Village Corner gas station, convenience store and restaurant is likely a total loss after an early morning fire on Labor Day.
Fire crews from Machin, Dryden, Oxdrift and Wabigoon all attended the fire, which was discovered at about six AM. By 11, heavy equipment was brought in to peel open the roof so fire fighters could get access to stubborn flames between the original roof and a newer roof that had been constructed on top of the first. According to several fire fighters at the scene, the building is probably a total loss. There is no estimate of damages as yet, nor has a cause been determined.
