Wabigoon Getting Ready For Dispatch Change

The Wabigoon Services Board has selected the Ontario Provincial Police to handle 9-1-1 dispatch service once the Dryden Communications Centre is closed.
Chair Richard Wetelainen says the move will save them 10%
Wetelainen adds they have teamed up with Oxdrift Fire and Dryden Fire and selected Kenora C.C.A.C. for fire dispatch service.
He says the three are sharing the cost to purchase a so-called “black box” as well as the maintenance of the $30,000 piece of equipment.
Wetelainen notes there’s additional costs on top of that due to equipment upgrades.
Wetelainen says they are expecting a smooth transition.
He notes the Services Board has put together a balanced budget and increased the funding needed for the fire department.
An update on the planned closure of the Dryden Com. Centre will be provided during a public meeting Thursday night.
