The Keewatin Patricia District School Board is turning
away Washagamis Bay students, because the band hasn’t paid
it’s tuition fees.
Board Chair Dave Penney says they met with several bands
in March and all except Washagamis Bay have paid parts of
their enrollment fees.
Penney says the First Nation owes more than a million
dollars.

Penney says in the past they have had to borrow money
from other areas in order to pay off the debts.
Once the band pays the school board, the students will
be welcomed back into class.
