Water And Ice Rescue Training In Dryden

Some 14 Dryden firefighters have received training for water and ice rescues.
They received a basic 6-hour course on the weekend and the class was for those who have not had the 80-hour Ontario Fire College certified water and ice rescue course.
Fire Chief Ken Kurz says the training is needed.
Kurz says water and ice rescues are a common occurrence in the Dryden area and notes staff must be prepared to deal with an emergency at all times.
He notes says those trained gain the ability to assist the water and rescue team in an emergency situation as well as learn more about the equipment and work involved in a successful rescue.
