Dryden Council has dumped cold water on a staff plan to implement a modest increase in the fixed rate for water meters.
The proposed hike of about 5% would have helped the city recoup some costs.
Some on council stress that residents already got used to how much they will be paying with the shadow bills, while others argue it’s only a two cent increase.
As it stands now, homeowners will be paying $3.06 per cubic meter as the starting rate on top of your usage.
Treasurer Adrienne Bodnarchuck says they are still in the process of getting water meters on-line.
Bodnarchuck says they are hoping to have water meters operational next month.
That means your first bill under the new system would be July 1st.
She cautions that the start-up date is still not set in stone as council may still decide to adjust the fixed rate.

Water Meters May Be On-Line June 1st
