The colour choice for clothing is meant to raise awareness of the impact of heart disease on women.
Dr. Richard Aplin says while women can have the same heart attack symptoms as men, they can also present it in a more atypical manner.
Aplin says if you’re suffering from any of symptoms of a heart attack, call 911 immediately.
He adds for both women and men, heart disease and stroke are highly preventable by making healthy lifestyle choices like quitting smoking, eating a nutritional diet and regular physical activity.
The Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation says cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death for Canadian women yet many are not aware of the threats.
