Towns across our area are all under weather watches and warnings, as of 2:20 pm Monday July 31.
A Severe Thunderstorm WARNING is in effect for Red Lake and area.
Severe Thunderstorm WATCHES are in effect for Ear Falls, Dryden, Vermilion Bay, Sioux Lookout and Kenora.
Heat Warnings remain in effect across virtually all of Northwestern Ontario.
At 2:20 pm, Doppler radar shows a line of severe thunderstorms moving W – E across the Red Lake Area.
Environment Canada says:
Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.
Thunderstorms are expected to affect portions of northwestern Ontario this afternoon and early this evening ahead of an approaching cold front.
Large hail and damaging winds are the main threats with these thunderstorms.
Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.
Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
