Weaver #2 (Has Clips)

Abitibi Consolidated plans to remove 444 thousand tonnes

of newsprint from production, 90 thousand of which will be

from the #9 machine at the Kenora mill.

Chief Executive Officer John Weaver says despite the drop

in production rates, they’ll still be able to supply many

of their clients.

The #10 machine could be idled indefinately in October,

if a solution to it’s high costs can’t be found. The

machine produces about 150 thousand tonnes.

As a result of the changes to the Kenora operation, and

Abitibi’s other mills, the company will save 110 million

dollars.
