Although the West Nile Virus is prevelant in Northwestern Ontario,
Health officials say there’s no need to panic.
11-dead crows have tested positive however the chance of the virus
spreading to humans is remote and has never happend before.
Health Unit Spokesperson Al Mathers says you should still take some
precautions.
Mathers says the public should wear long sleeves and pants at
night, apply bug dope and get rid of standing water around their homes.
He adds the Health Unit has never identified a West Nile positive
mosquitoe.
Mathers says the bird collection program will be suspended around a 20-kilometre radius where the birds were found.
He says the program is intended to show the virus is in circulation, which has now been confirmed in those areas.
