Northwestern Ontario has its first report of West Nile Virus positive mosquitoes.
The mosquitoes were found in a trap in the Fort Frances area.
The Northwestern Health Unit says the West Nile Virus is spread to humans by the bite of an infected mosquito.
However, officials stress there have been no human cases reported and the most people will likely experience is mild flu-like illness.
The Health Unit ceased its West Nile bird collection program last year, but continues to trap mosquitoes in several areas of the Kenora and Rainy River Districts to monitor for the presence of the virus.
This is the first report of West Nile in this Region in a couple of years.
